Septic

Our septic tank was pumped last week. I had way more fun than I probably should have watching the tank pumped. They came a little early – they were in the area. I didn't mind. That meant that I didn't have to sit around waiting for them, like I usually do for services like this. They couldn't find the tank at first. I told them that they (their company) had pumped this one before. So I got the receipt that the previous homeowner had left us. Our tank is apparently DEEP – and if she hadn't installed a cleanout before she moved, we would have been looking at about $500+ to have it pumped. And they wouldn't have been able to do it that day. It would have involved a backhoe – well at least a small one. But there WAS a cleanout – somewhere. So they radioed the office and they had the location on file! After that, it was easy for them. Dig a hole, put in the hose and let her rip!

TV 2

I can't believe that I forgot to add to my list of shows.....
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!
Riggins, Little Matt Serasen, how could I forget! It did something different this season, that a show has never done before. It was aired last fall on Direct TV, which we don't have. Then aired on NBC this winter. So it really just started up, well a few weeks ago. So it wasn't on my Fall TV schedule chart that I made. Hence the forgetting. But it is one of my very favorites!

Since my last post about TV, I have dropped another show. Gossip Girl. As much as the Chuck and Blair story is fun - well used to be fun at least - I don't really enjoy the other story lines. And didn't really care about watching the ones that were just sitting there on the Tivo.
My new rule applied. I didn't look forward to watching it, so it goes.
It went.

TV

When the fall TV schedule began, I had about 3 - 4 shows a NIGHT that I was planning to watch. And with the help of my Tivo (and a spreadsheet) I made out a nice little tv schedule to watch all the shows that I loved. Or that I thought I loved...

The first this season to go was Heroes. It pretty much did itself in. And now it's pretty much unwatchable. (after 2 episodes, if that)

The next casualties were Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. I decided that these shows were not an escape, nor were they entertaining anymore (to me, at least). I was trying to have more healthy tv viewing. And these had to go. I deleted the backlog from the Now Playing list - and did away with the season pass. It was liberating - and wonderfully freeing! Yes, a little redundant. But so true. (about 4 eps in, maybe, I wasn't counting and I was way behind anyway)

Two shows that I did enjoy, well, got TAKEN away. Dirty Sexy Money and Pushing Daisies. Money kind of fizzled on me. But Daisies, I was with it till the bitter end and I am eagerly awaiting the release of the DVD.

I watched the first few episodes of the Hills, but even that got old. I am so over Heidi and Spencer. And I didn't go with Whitney to The City, either.

Smallville. Used to watch it. But it's just gotten so old and tired. Still a good show, just not compelling anymore. And the new rule this season was, if you don't get excited that it's in the Now Playing list, it gets the axe.

D and I enjoy Terminator. We are 2 of the the 11 people that are watching that show. And it's pretty good. Even Brian Austin Green is really great on that show. Now that it has been moved to Fridays, we know that it's only a matter of time. It's a goner. But we are enjoying it while it lasts. And speaking of Fridays... Dollhouse premiered last Friday, with dismal ratings. Well, what did you expect when putting a Joss Whedon show on a Friday night. Like it was going to last anyway. So we just are watching the episodes that they give us. We are hoping for at least 3. We'll see.

So really of the 20 shows that I started the season with, only a few have survived:

There is Chuck. Struggling in its second season, but still a great show. Action. Romance. Comedy. What else do you need?
Bones and Fringe - Very intruiging and funny shows. And of course the gross out factor!
Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill. Wonderful guilty pleasures. Don't knock 'em till you seen 'em! Four words, 2 words about each. Chuck & Blair. Nathan & Hailey!
Terminator - while it lasts.
And the Office. If I don't have to cringe and bury my head in the pillow, then it wasn't a good episode!
Big Bang and How I met your mother - We don't really do sitcoms, but as far as these go, they are pretty clever and quite funny! We catch them ever so often.
And Greek and Kyle XY - my ABC family shows. They cycle in and out - different airings on cable channels. And I think that the shows are great. The name of the channel is a little misleading. Not much "family" about it. But for me, good shows!

So really with adding an ABC family show here and a random sitcom there, I really only have about 1.5 shows a night. And many nights, there aren't any shows on that I'm going to watch. Thursdays used to be so full of tv. Now it's only 30 minutes!

Pain

Trying to recover from being sick. My cold, as it so often does for me, turned into a sinus infection. And caused the worst sinus headache I have ever had. I have had many of these headaches in the past, due to infections and allergies - these going hand in hand. And I confidently say that this was the worst. My teeth hurt - ALL of my teeth, my jaw, both temples, the front of my face and all across my head. All at the same time. I couldn't see very well, it hurt so bad. That was when I called the doctor. And after beginning a round of antibiotics, I am glad to say that the headache is just a faint pressure now. Five days of a constant headache was not pleasant.

I've set some goals for myself. Just some things to do in everyday life. Like try something new every week. Last week I tried cream cheese and pepper jelly on a cracker. And if you know me, that was a big deal. I don't like cream cheese. At all. But I was at a party, and I thought I would give it a go. Not too bad. It's not my favorite snack of all time, but I liked the sweet and spice together. Interesting...

Sick

It got me. The cold caught up with me. I usually make it through December and January unscathed. And it usually hits in February. Well, it didn't waste any time this year. I started having the feelings of a headache on Thursday evening. Just a headache, I thought.

Nope. By Friday evening, I was in the bed, armed with tissues, orange juice and NyQuil. I found a movie to watch on TV - Legends of the Fall. I love that movie. Then after it went off, The Lake House, with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, came on. I knew I was sick then, because I was thinking that this was a great movie. Besides Speed (and the cheese factor that it offers), I really don't like either of those actors. (Well, Bill & Ted's - but that has the cheese factor too).
It must be the cold, telling me that I enjoyed the movie.

I'm on the upswing from being sick. I can sort of breathe and mostly stand. I've got a whole orchard of orange juice in my system. Thus begins the weeks of residual congestion. Yea.

Cake

The Superbowl marks the end of the NFL season. My favorite sporting season.
The Superbowl is also my favorite baking moment of the year too. I enjoy each year making a superbowl cake. Complete with Reece's and Kisses as players. Hugs usually stand in for the refs, but we don't like Hugs that much, so this year I just striped some Rolos!
And the goal posts - Kit Kat bars fashioned together with toothpicks.

I wish that either of our favorite teams had been on the cake. Maybe next year... Or a few years...
